Kennett staffer lobbies Ted

The Liberal-linked lobbying firm Barton Deakin will soon open in Melbourne to help businesses establish relationships with the new government.

Headed by former Jeff Kennett staffer Andrew Scannell, the company will be openly pro-Coalition, similar to how Hawker Britton, run in Melbourne by former Cain-Kirner minister David White, was openly pro-Labor.

Scannell was also an adviser to former transport minister Alan Brown.

He said Barton Deakin would be “openly aligned” to the Coalition.

Barton Deakin’s Canberra office is headed by former Howard chief-of-staff Grahame Morris.

The company’s clients include Medicines Australia, Phillip Morris, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and Apple and Pear Australia.

Premier Ted Ballieu has promised to ban success fees for lobbyist on public projects.
