Barton Deakin recruit former Kennett advisor

Andrew Scannell has been recruited by government relations agency Barton Deakin. Scannell was an advisor to former Victorian Liberal Premier Jeff Kennett, and has also held a number of corporate PR roles.

Scannell joins Barton Deakin Directors, Peter Collins (former NSW Opposition Leader) and Grahame Morris (former chief of staff to Prime Minister John Howard). Barton Deakin is a government relations agency openly aligned with the Liberal‐ National Coalition.

Scannell spent four years as an adviser on the personal staff of Jeff Kennett while Premier of Victoria, taking responsibility for a wide range of portfolios including transport, roads, ports, planning, agriculture, tertiary education, gaming, arts, and tourism.

Prior to this, he spent two years as an adviser to Kennett’s Minister for Transport, Alan Brown. He also worked with the Coalition in opposition as an adviser to Bill Forwood, the Shadow Minister for Conservation and Environment, Energy and Workcover.

Scannell was most recently global head of corporate communications at retail property group Centro. Prior to joining Centro, he was the head of media for AGL Energy Limited and has previously managed public affairs for Fonterra/Bonlac Foods, Mayne Group and government relations for Transurban.
